The 8th General Assembly of the Turkic Universities Union (TURKUNIB) convened in Tashkent on 15 October 2025, following the official opening program. The General Assembly was hosted by Tashkent International University, which currently serves as the Chair University-in-Office of TURKUNIB, and was moderated by Dr. Mirvokhid Azimov, Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). The meeting brought together rectors, academics, and representatives from more than 70 member universities to discuss enhanced cooperation in higher education across the Turkic world.

During the sessions, the General Assembly deliberated on key agenda items, including the concept paper prepared by the OTS Secretariat on the establishment of a Permanent secretariat for  TURKUNIB and a dedicated Program Fund for the Orhun Exchange Program. The meeting also reviewed the proposals of the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye on strengthening the institutional framework of TURKUNIB and the Orhun Exchange Program, and proposals of the Government of Hungary regarding the establishment of a joint Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund and the further enhancement of the Orhun Exchange Program.

The Assembly further adopted a decision to welcome 62 new universities as members of TURKUNIB, reflecting the growing academic solidarity and expanding network of cooperation within the Turkic world.
