Secretary General of the OTS met with Director-General for Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico to discuss prospects for cooperation

During his program in Mexico, the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), H.E. Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, held a meeting with H.E. Ambassador Aníbal Gómez Toledo, Director-General for Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico.

Ambassador Gómez Toledo warmly welcomed the Secretary General expressing interest in the Organization of Turkic States as a dynamic regional integration structure that promotes cooperation among countries. 

The Secretary General presented the goals and activities of the OTS, outlining its work in areas such as economy, education, energy, transport and other priority sectors. 
Ambassador Aníbal Gómez Toledo informed that, within the framework of Mexico’s cooperation with regional organizations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico maintains engagement in particularly, with the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Arab League, with which Mexico has signed a Memorandum of Understanding and an Action Plan covering cooperation in political dialogue, culture, education, and other fields.  Ambassador Gómez Toledo proposed to explore the establishment of a similar long-term cooperation framework between Mexico and the OTS.

The Secretary General welcomed Ambassador Gómez Toledo’s proposal to be further elaborated for long-term cooperation between Mexico and the OTS. The Secretary General also highlighted the decision of Heads of State at the recent OTS Summit held in Gabala in October 2025 on the establishment of the “OTS+” format. He underlined that this new framework aims to further expand the Organization’s cooperation with new partners and regions beyond the Turkic World, strengthening OTS’s global engagement and partnerships. 

During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation between Mexico and the OTS countries in fields of education, culture, tourism, youth, sports, innovation, and civil protection. They also exchanged views on establishing a political consultation mechanism between the OTS Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico and explored the possibility of developing a Memorandum of Understanding to serve as a basis for future collaboration.
Both sides expressed readiness to maintain dialogue to promote institutional cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and shared initiatives that contribute to stronger ties between the Turkic States and Mexico.
