4th Meeting of Ministers in Charge of Tourism of the Turkic Council was successfully held in Astana.
The 4th Meeting of the Ministers in Charge of Tourism of the Turkic Council was hosted by Minister of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arystanbek Mukhamediuly on 8 August 2018 in Astana.

Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey Ahmet Haluk Dursun, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism of the Kyrgyz Republic Baktybek Sekimov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Kazakhstan Rashad Mamadov, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in the Republic of Kazakhstan Nevzat Uyanık attended the Ministerial meeting, which was moderated by Deputy Secretary General of the Turkic Council Dr. Ömer Kocaman. Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Kazakhstan Saidikram Niyazhodjaev and Vice President of Air Astana Ibrahim Canliel were also present at the meeting as the guests of honor.

At his opening remarks, Dr. Kocaman touched upon the changing trends in global tourism noting that international tourists arrival grew by a remarkable 7% in 2017 with an increasing demand for cultural tourism accounting for 40%. He stressed that the Silk Road is one of the most popular destinations to attract significant proportion of this demand.

As important highlights, at the Meeting, the Ministers praised the succesful implementation and promotion of the Modern Silk Road Joint Tour Package that they considered as a landmark project for creating alternative destinations for cultural tourism in accordance with new tourism trends in the world. They expressed their full support to further promote this project with all possible means and adopted the marketing strategy and promotional activities for the period 2019-2020.

Ministers welcomed the website of the Joint Tour Package which provides not only information on the background and details of the said project but also the destinations of the Member States along the Silk Road (www.modersilkroadtour.com).

They commended the organisation of the first trip to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on 31 August-6 September 2018 where the tourists will also have a unique opportunity to attend the opening ceremony of the 3rd World Nomad Games and other activities in the framework of this internationsl event.

Parties agreed the continuation of vocational trainings on service sector, implemented with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of the Republic of Turkey where until now more than 1,000 experts received training and more than half of the trainees were women. Moreover, it was decided that an Action Plan will be immediately prepared to kick of trainings for guides at the end of 2018.

The Ministers also thanked to TRT Avaz for the preparation of the documentary of the Joint Tour Package, the short version of which is expected to be presented to the Presidents of thr Member States at the 6th Summit of the Turkic Council to be held on 3 September 2018 in Cholpon-Ata.

Underlining the significance of Uzbekistan along the Silk Road, Parties encouraged the inclusion of the historical Uzbek cities in the project. Meanwhile, Uzbek Ambassador Niyazhodjaev welcomed the idea and provided the audience with the information on the developments in the tourism sector of his country.

Moreover, the development of ties with Turkmenistan and People’s Republic of China as well as the enhancement of ongoing fruitful relations with UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), UN Development Programme (UNDP) and UN Office of South South Cooperation (UNOSSC) with a special focus on tourism sector were also consented at the Ministerial meeting.

Prior to the Ministerial meeting, the 13th Meeting of Tourism Working Group was held on 7 August 2018 where the participants of the Working Group intensively worked for the preparation of the recommendations adopted by the Ministerial Meeting.

Project Directors Pelin Musabay Baki, Yıldız Uzakova, Ferid Demirli and Research Expert Dastan Almen accompanied Deputy Secretary General Dr. Kocaman at both meetings
