5th Meeting of the Council of Heads of Muslim Religious Boards of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) convened on 3 October 2024 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The meeting was hosted by Grand Mufti Naurızbay Taganulı, Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Kazakhstan Muslims and attended by Mr. Mirvokhid Azimov, Deputy Secretary General of the OTS, Sheikh ul-Islam Allahşükür Paşazade, Chairman of Caucasus Muslims’ Board of Azerbaijan, Grand Mufti Abdulaziz Zakirov, Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan, Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, President of Religious Affairs of Türkiye, Sheikh Nuriddin Haliknazarov, Head of the Religious Administration of Muslims of Uzbekistan.
At the meeting, Parties emphasized the importance of carrying out joint activities with the aim to enhance solidarity and cooperation among the Turkic people, as well as exploring the solutions for the problems of the region and beyond.
During the meeting, the Council of Heads of Muslim Religious Boards of the OTS adopted the resolution on "Islam Supports the Traditions of Local People" and “Guideline of the Fatwa Committee”, which determines the working principles of the afore-mentioned Committee.
Chairmanship of the Council of Heads of the Muslim Religious Boards of the OTS transferred from Spiritual Administration of Kazakhstan Muslims to the Religious Administration of Kyrgyzstan and the 6th Meeting will be held in Kyrgyzstan in 2025.
On the margins of the Meeting, International Scientific and Theoretical Conference on “Khoja Ahmed Yasawi and His Spiritual Heritage” was organized with the participation of the Heads of Religious Administrations of the OTS Member States as well as scholars from the Turkic World.
