Extraordinary Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Turkic Council on the situation in Afghanistan hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu held in Istanbul on 27 September 2021.
The Meeting, chaired by H.E. Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was attended by H.E. Mukhtar Tileuberdi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Ruslan Kazakbaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, H.E. Abdulaziz Kamilov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, H.E. Baghdad Amreyev, Secretary General of the Turkic Council as well as H.E. Viktor Mátis, Ambassador of Hungary to the Republic of Turkey.
The Meeting started with observation of a minute of silence to honour and commemorate of immortal memory of martyrs who defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan during the 44-Day Patriotic War.
The Ministers exchanged views on the recent situation in Afghanistan and its regional and global ramifications. They also shared their assessments regarding the various dimensions of stabilization and humanitarian efforts of the international community in Afghanistan including processes aiming for the establishment of an administration that is inclusive and representative, coordination on preventing Afghanistan from becoming again a safe haven for terrorism, measures against enduring risk of increased flows of irregular migration from Afghanistan, ensuring respect for human rights for all.
At the second part of the ministerial meeting, Secretary General Baghdad Amreyev delivered a report on the agenda of the upcoming Turkic Council Summit scheduled to take place in Istanbul on 12 November 2021.
He underlined that the Istanbul Summit will have loaded agenda which will serve to further deepening the multilateral relations among the Member States in various fields.
The Secretary General also briefed the Ministers on the establishment process of the Turkic Investment Fund and preparation of a free trade agreement for services and investments that would be instrumental for the Turkic Council countries to eliminate behind-the-border-barriers that would otherwise impede the flow of services and encourage further investments into our region.
Ministers adopted the text of the Statement of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Turkic Council on the situation in Afghanistan.
Participants also exchanged their views on number of pressing topics of international and regional agendas.
