Famous Kyrgyz poet Colon Mamitov was commemorated in Istanbul.
A commemoration program was held on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of of poet Colon Kyrgyz Mamitov in cooperation with the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TÜRKSOY), Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Eurasian Writers Union, Istanbul Kültür A.Ş Directorate and the Consulate General of Kyrgyzstan in Istanbul.
The opening speeches of the commemoration program were made by TURKSOY Secretary General Dusen Kaseinov, Turkic Council Deputy Secretary General Sultan Raev, Kyrgyzstan's Consul General in Istanbul Lira Sydykova, President of Eurasian Writers Union Assoc. Dr. Yakup Ömeroğlu.
In his opening speech, TURKSOY Secretary General Dusen Kaseinov stated that Colon Mamitov has a very valuable place in Kyrgyz literature and that he has contibuted with important works to the written literature of the Turkic World.
Deputy Secretary General of the Turkic Council Sultan Raev underlined that in his poems Mamitov talks about himself and through himself about man, and through man about the universe.
Consul General Lira Sydykova emphasized that the intellectual legacy of the famous poet is based on humanity, love, tolerance and togetherness.
The commemoration program was  attended by senior government officials, academics and writers, as well as the Kyrgyz diaspora studying and working in Turkey. 
During the event, the poems of Colon Mamitov and the songs written to with his poems were performed by the famous poets and singers of Kyrgyzstan.
