The Fifth General Assembly of the Turkic University Union of the Turkic Council was hosted by Kazakh-Turkish International Khoja Ahmed Yassawi University, in its capacity as the current Chair University, on 26 October 2021 in the city of Turkistan, the Spiritual Capital of the Turkic World.
The General Assembly was attended by 23 member and observer university rectors, vice-rectors from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Hungary as well as the representatives of the member universities.
The Secretary General of the Turkic Council Bagdad Amreyev; Chairman of the Khoja Ahmed Yassawi University, Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Muhittin Şimşek; and the Rector the Khoja Ahmed Yassawi University Dr. Janar Temirbekova, delivered the opening remarks at the General Assembly that was moderated by the Deputy Secretary General of the Turkic Council, Dr. Ömer Kocaman.
At the opening session General Secretary General Bagdad Amreyev emphasized the importance of education and science on the agenda of the Turkic Council and shared with tge participants the current undertakings of the Secretariat in this field.
B. Amreyev referred to the decisions of the 7th Summit of the Turkic Council that took place in Baku on 15 October 2019, during which the Heads of State supported the enlargement of the “Orkhun Exchange Program”.
Secretary General expressed confidence that the outcomes of the meeting will further contribute to the cooperation in the education field among the Member States.
Chairman of the Khoja Ahmed Yassawi University, Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Muhittin Şimşek, and the Rector Dr. Janar Temirbekova emphasized the importance of the projects and initiatives conducted by the member universities of the Union to enhance multilateral coordination and cooperation in the field of science and education among the Turkic Council countries.
Within the scope of the agenda of the General Assembly, Rector Dr. Janar Temirbekova presented a report on the activities carried out during the Chairmanship of the Turkic Council of the Turkic University Union and reviewed the Road Map for 2021-2023.
During the General Assembly, Parties discussed the latest developments regarding the “Orkhun Exchange Program”, the new membership applications, relevant agenda items of the 6th meeting of the Ministers of Education of the Turkic Council to be held on 4 November 2021 in Istanbul, Second Sport Games of the Turkic University Union, and Cultural and Art Festival of the Turkic World. In the course of the meeting, the Student Council reported on its activities as well.
The candidate universities to the Union membership made presentations to the General Assembly about their respective universities and their strategies to be pursued during their prospective membership at the Turkic University Union. Subsequently, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Semey Medical University of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz-Uzbek International University named after Batyrali Sydykov of Kyrgyzstan, Ankara University, Marmara University, Uludağ University, Alanya Keykubat University of Turkey, University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature named after Alisher Navai, Kokand University of Uzbekistan joined the Union became new members of the Turkic University Union of the Turkic Council.
On the margins of the Fifth General Assembly, bilateral Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between the Chair Ahmed Yassawi University and Kyrgyz-Uzbek International University named after Batyrali Sydykov of Kyrgyzstan, Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies and Kokand University of Uzbekistan.
