The joint report of the Turkic Council and the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) entitled `South-South in Action: How the Turkic Council uses South-South Cooperation to Promote Regional and Global Development` was launched on 25 September 2017 in New York.
The joint report of the Turkic Council and the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) entitled `South-South in Action: How the Turkic Council uses South-South Cooperation to Promote Regional and Global Development` was launched on 25 September 2017 in New York on the margins of 72nd Session of UN General Assembly. The keynote speakers of the event were Ambassador Ramil Hasanov, Secretary General of the Turkic Council and Jorge Chediek, Envoy of the UN Secretary General on South-South cooperation and Director of the UNOSSC. The event celebrated the Turkic Council’s contributions in particular to the development of South South Cooperation, and in general to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. The report is the first publication attributed to the role of an international organization to implement South-South cooperation within the series of South-South in Action of the UNOSSC.
The launch event moderated by Tarık Iziraren, Deputy Director of UNOSSC, was attended Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, High Representative of UN Alliance of Civilizations, Cihan Sultanoğlu, Asistant Secretary General of and UNDP Assistant Administrator, Deputy Permanent Representatives and Representatives of the Turkic Council Member States to the UN, Consul General of Turkey as well as representatives of other countries’ missions to UN and officials of the UN entities.
In the intervention part of the event, High Representative Al-Nasser congratulated the two organizations on the launch of the report and called for further development of the South-South cooperation approach with the empowerment of the Group of 77within the UN.
In his intervention at the event, Deputy Permanent Representative of Turkey to UN expressed their support to this and similar activities of the Turkic Council which has enhanced its relations with several UN bodies such as UNDP and UNOSSC. He also noted that Turkey is pleased to host the Global South-South Development EXPO on 27-30 November 2017 In Antalya.
Assistant Administrator Sultanoğlu delivered the closing remarks of the event and praised the Turkic Council’s efforts on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in its region. She also called for a similar UNDP-UNOSSC-Turkic Council joint event to be organized annually on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
After the event, Ambassador Hasanov had a bilateral meeting with Director Chediek and discussed the details of the solution forum that the Council will organize with the UNDP within the framework of the Global South-South Development EXPO 2017 to be hosted by Turkey.
Project Directors Pelin Musabay Baki, Ali Çiviler, Jeyhun Shahverdiyev, Assan Mazhitov and Chief of Protocol Emre Yurdakul accompanied Secretary General Hasanov during the event.
