The Transport Coordination Committee of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) at the level of Deputy Ministers convened its meeting on 12 August 2022 in Istanbul.
The meeting was moderated by H.E. Baghdad Amreyev, the OTS Secretary General, and attended by Mr. Rahman Hummatov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Almaz Idrysov, Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Almaz Turgunbaev, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Selim Dursun, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye, and Mr. Abdusamat Muminov, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Addressing the meeting Secretary General Baghdad Amreyev shared with the participants on the latest developments in enhancing transport and transit cooperation within the OTS, including efforts on the enhancement of legal basis and the application of digital tools among Turkic countries.
Referring to the decisions of OTS summits, in particular, at the Istanbul Summit held on 12 November 2021, Secretary General emphasized the need for taking concrete steps aimed at creating favourable conditions and facilitating the transport and transit operations along the Trans-Caspian International East-West Middle Corridor. Underlining recent geopolitical circumstances in the Eurasian region and beyond, he called the Parties to intensify transport cooperation as a high priority in the OTS agenda.
Secretary General Amreyev also put a special emphasis on the Zangezur Corridor that would form an uninterrupted overland route toward Europe reshaping the international transport system.
He made a special emphasis on the efforts for the preparations to the upcoming summit of Heads of states of the OTS member states to be hold in Samarkand on November 11, 2022.
During the meeting, the Parties exchanged views on the measures to be taken for enhancing better connectivity within the Middle Corridor and held discussions on the drafts of “Agreement on International Combined Freight Transport among the OTS Member States” and “Transport Connectivity Program”, as well as agreed to stir up the digitalization of transport and transit procedures among the Member States with the implementation of digital TİR, ePermit and eCMR applications.
