I condemn the military attacks led by Armenia against Azerbaijan in the line of contact on the night of April 1, 2016. The ongoing attacks unfortunately have led to loss of lives including civilians on Azerbaijani side and are adversely affecting the lives of civilian population.
Based on internationally-agreed norms and principles, I call on Armenia to refrain from using force and rather to use peaceful means for settling the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabagh conflict. I also welcome the unilateral cease-fire announced by Azerbaijan and invite Armenia to reciprocate it by immediately putting an end to the clashes and observing the ceasefire.
Wishing God’s mercy to the deceased Azerbaijani citizens, patience to their relatives and speedy recovery to the wounded ones, I underline the need for an unconditional withdrawal of all Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territories in compliance with the UN Security Council resolutions, as well as with the official declarations of OSCE, Council of Europe, and PACE (Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe) for the peaceful resolution of the conflict.
