The roundtable "Transport Corridors in Central Asia: New Opportunities for Kyrgyzstan" was organized by “AKIpress” News Agency in Bishkek on 28 February 2023, attended by high-level authorities of Kyrgyzstan, international organizations, foreign diplomatic missions, as well as expert communities and private sector.
During the event, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, Head of the President's Administration H.E. Akylbek Zhaparov in his welcoming remarks highlighted the importance of Central Asia for transport corridors due to its location at the strategically important intersection of two continents and shared his perspective on the potential for opening up significant investment and trade opportunities for Kyrgyzstan as a vital hub for trade and transport.
The OTS Deputy Secretary General Mirvokhid Azimov took part in the roundtable with a speech, where he emphasized the role of transport corridors for Central Asian countries for enhancing and diversifying transport routes and ensuring the global supply chain with a special focus on the Middle Corridor. He also shared with the participants the current developments within the OTS in advancing transport cooperation in line with the “Turkic World Vision – 2040” and OTS Strategy for 2022-2026 through various mechanisms and efforts to introduce digital tools in transport and transit procedures, including the digital TIR, e-Permit, and eCMR, among others.
Within the framework of the roundtable, Deputy Secretary General Azimov came together with the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Zhaparov and discussed the current transport and customs agenda of the OTS and exchanged views on the ways to enhance transport connectivity in the region.
