An online meeting of the Joint Working Group established within the “Memorandum of Understanding among the Government Bodies of the Member States of the OTS regarding the Information and Experience Sharing in the Field of Various Types of Economic Zones” for finalizing the discussions of the draft concept on establishment of the “TURAN” Special Economic Zone (“TURAN” SEZ) was held on 8 February 2023.
The idea on creating the “TURAN” SEZ was proposed firstly by H.E. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of Kazakhstan, at the 8th Summit of the Organization. During the 9th OTS Summit the Council of Heads of State adopted the relative decision on speeding up the agreeing process on the concept.
The meeting was moderated by the OTS Deputy Secretary General Dr. Ömer Kocaman and attended by the representatives of the state institutions of the OTS Member States in charge of special economic, free economic and industrial zones.
The meeting started with a minute of silence in the honor of the victims and injured at the earthquakes which took place on 6 February 2023 in southern provinces of Türkiye.
During the meeting parties reviewed and elaborated the updated concept on establishing the “TURAN” SEZ, made the required amendments on this document and agreed to adopt the finalized draft in due course.
