Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) H.E. Amb. Kubanychbek Omuraliev delivered a statement at the Ministerial Meeting of Non-Aligned Movement Coordinating Bureau themed “NAM: United and steadfast in confronting emerging challenges” hosted by the NAM Azerbaijani Chairmanship in Baku on 5-6 July 2023.
The Secretary General highlighted the activities and especially the results of the Extraordinary Summits of the OTS in confronting the emerging challenges as well as growing relations with the UN, its specialized agencies, NAM, and other regional and international actors.
The Secretary General underlined that the OTS countries also donated more than 600 thousand vaccines to the NAM member countries in Africa, as part of the contribution to the global solidarity.
He also emphasized that the OTS has always supported a regional ownership approach to address regional issues which reflected in the founding documents and Summit Declarations for enhancing peace, stability, and prosperity in our region and beyond.
Ambassador Omuraliyev added that the 2nd Extraordinary Summit in Ankara on 16 March 2023 focused on "Disaster-Emergency Management and Humanitarian Assistance and as a result crucial decisions were made to contribute to Türkiye's reconstruction efforts and establish the Civil Protection Mechanism of the OTS.
The Secretary General reiterated the readiness of the OTS to contribute to the efforts of the global community in tackling emerging challenges and cooperate with the Non-aligned Movement and support its initiatives.
Secretary General Omuraliyev also held meetings with the high-level officials of the OTS Member States and heads of international organizations on the margins of the Ministerial Meeting.
