OTS-URTA holds meeting to set future plans and activities

The Union of the Associations of International Road Carriers in the Turkic Region (OTS-URTA) convened its meeting on 26 December 2024 in a hybrid format, with participation from the OTS Secretariat, heads and experts from National Associations of International Road Carriers of Member States and Turkmenistan, and the International Road Transport Union (IRU).

During the meeting, the parties discussed the draft working program to be realized within the chairmanship of the International Transporters Association of Türkiye (UND) in the OTS-URTA. The program focuses on enhancing transport connectivity and sets several activities, including conducting demonstration tours across transport corridors, developing a legal framework for mutual recognition and standardization of vehicle certifications, streamlining visa facilitation for drivers, and promoting digitalization efforts.

The OTS-URTA is designed to tackle challenges in the road transport sector, encourage constructive dialogue, and propose actionable solutions while fostering stronger connections along major transport corridors, including the Middle Corridor. The platform will advocate for the interests of road transport carriers, facilitate public-private partnerships, and play an active role in the OTS’s transport mechanisms, such as Ministerial Meetings and Transport Coordination Committee.

In the Declaration of the OTS Summit held in Bishkek on 6 November 2024, the Heads of State welcomed the establishment of the OTS-URTA and instructed the relevant authorities to support its activities aimed at improving coordination, fostering innovation in logistics and transportation, and facilitating smoother and more efficient transit operations across the region.
