The Second Policy Planning Consultations of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 18 May 2023 in Baku.
The consultations focused on the global and regional strategic outlook, future development scenarios for the OTS, and the assessment of the spread of Turkic culture and languages around the world.
OTS Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Yerzhan Mukash in his speech emphasized the geostrategic importance of the Turkic World and highlighted that the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor (Middle Corridor) is also increasingly becoming the safest and shortest trade route between Europe and Asia, therefore, for the efficiency and competitiveness of the Middle Corridor, streamlining customs and administrative procedures as well as digitalization are the important steps on facilitating transport operations, eliminating administrative barriers, and decreasing the logistical costs in the Corridor.
Deputy Secretary General also added that the current intra-trade is quite far from its potential and to this end, the Member and Observer States need to work on concluding preferential and free trade agreements.
Referring to the “Turkic World Vision 2040” and OTS Strategy for 2022-2026 documents the participants stressed the importance of enhanced and institutionalized cooperation and solidarity among the Member and Observer States to tackle the impacts of the regional and global challenges.
The parties agreed to continue the policy planning consultations on a regular basis to discuss the issues high on the regional and global agenda as well as to respond to unpredictable challenges and emerging opportunities.
