Within the framework of the visit to New York, the Secretary General Ambassador Ramil Hasanov met with Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations on 14 May 2015 at the building of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation.
At the meeting some issues of mutual interest, including the observer status of the Turkic Council at the UN General Assembly was discussed.
Secretary General provided Ambassador Churkin with information on the ongoing activities of the Turkic Council, purpose of the organization and added that the aim of his visit is to attend several meetings and events about the Turkic Council’s Observer Status application at the UN General Assembly, alongside with other issues. The Secretary General mentioned that bilateral relations of the Member States of the Turkic Council with Russia are in high level and they give utmost importance to the relations with Russia. He assured that favourable conclusion of the Council’s pending application for an observer status in the UN General Assembly will strengthen organization’s commitment to working towards shared matters of interest.
Ambassador Churkin expressed his satisfaction with the information provided to him on the activities of the Turkic Council and reiterated that they understand the Member States of the Council well and it is natural that four friendly countries are cooperating very closely. He wished success to the future activities of the Turkic Council, and hoped that Council’s pending application for the observer status in the UN General Assembly would be concluded positively.
At the end of the meeting the Secretary General invited Ambassador to the reception of the Turkic Council to be held at the UN building on 15 May 2015.
Turkic Council Project Director Zamin Aliyev and Chief of Protocol Emre Yurdakul accompanied to the Secretary General during the meeting.
