Secretary General of the Turkic Council Ambassador Ramil Hasanov participated in the opening ceremony of the Ministerial Conference ‘Meeting Challenge of Sustainable Energy’ and the `Eighth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development` held on 11 June 2017 in Astana.
The Conference was inaugurated by Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of RBEC, UN Commissioner General for EXPO 2017 in Astana Cihan Sultanoglu and the Under Secretaries General of the UN for UNESCAP and UNECE.
The delegation of the Turkic Council attended the said Conference and Forum based on the decisions of the Heads of States taken at the Fifth Summit of the Turkic Council to begin to work on Alternative Energy within the scope of the Turkic Council.
In his speech, Prime Minister emphasized the importance of alternative energy and initiatives proposed by the President of Kazakhstan H.E. Nursultan Nazarbayev in developing green energy and transforming the economy with green technologies. Those initiatives will allow Kazakhstan to develop in the direction of sustainable development increasing of GDP by 3% by 2050 and creating new jobs.
The participants in their statements elaborated on green energy and underlined the great potential it possesses for growth with a special reference to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by the UN General Assembly in 2015. They all reassured that the UNDP and other relevant UN affiliated agencies will take all the necessary efforts for the development in this sphere by implementing various projects in transforming traditional economies to green economies.
On the margins of the Conference Secretary General Ambassador Hasanov held various bilateral talks and contacts with the officials of the Member States and the representatives of various international organizations.
Secretary General Hasanov was accompanied by Project Directors of the Turkic Council Assan Mazhitov, Ali Çiviler, Farid Damirli, Chief of Protocol Emre Yurdakul and Deputy Director of Financial and Administrative Affairs Araz Salmanov.
