Secretary General of the Turkic Council Baghdad Amreyev attended Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Open-Ended Executive Committee Meeting at the level of Foreign Ministers on the Terrorist Attack against Two Mosques in New Zealand and on Countering Hatred and Intolerance against Muslims, which was held on 22 March 2019 in Istanbul and started with the special speech of President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand Winston Peters.
The ministers condemned the horrendous terrorist attacks targeting innocent worshippers in New Zealand, appreciated the commitment of New Zealand government’s thorough and transparent investigation of the terrorist attack and expressed their deepest condolences to the families of victims.
The participants adopted the final communiqué which condemned all acts of terrorism and any association of terrorism with Islam, reaffirmed the obligation of all states to combat terrorist activities and denounced demonstrations of hatred and intolerance against Muslims around the world.
On the margins of the meeting, the Secretary General met with President of the Republic of Turkey H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with whom he discussed the preparation for the upcoming summit of the Turkic Council.
On the sidelines of the event, he also had bilateral talks with Secretary General of OIC Yousef al Othaimeen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria Noureddine Ayadi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Qatar Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, Assistant Secretary General of OIC Musa Kulaklıkaya, former Secretary General of OIC Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu and others. The parties exchanged views on developments in the region and international arena, relations between the Turkic Council and OIC member states and other matters of mutual concern.
