The 2nd General Assembly Meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic speaking countries (TURKPA) was held in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan on 27-28 April 2011, with the participation of representatives consisting of members of Assembly Council and parliamentarians of member countries as well as guests from other international organizations. The meeting was devoted to the 20th anniversary of Independence of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Turkic Council Secretary General Halil Akıncı participated in the General Assembly Meeting and delivered a speech where he gave information on the activities and projects planned by the Turkic Council.
The Presidency of TURKPA was officially passed on to Kazakhstan and the Parliament Speakers signed an agreement accepting 'Astana Declaration' and a Protocol on Library Cooperation. It was also decided to hold the 3rd General Assembly Meeting of TURKPA in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic.
