Secretary General of the Turkic Council Ambassador Ramil Hasanov attended the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Group of Friends Ministerial meeting on 23 September 2016 in New York at UN Headquarters.
The meeting was opened with the address of Nassir Abdulaziz Al- Nasser, the UN High Representative for the UNAOC where he delivered welcoming regards under the theme "Countering Xenophobia Through Fostering Dialogue. Afterwards, Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary General of the UN addressed the audience.
Following the remarks of the President of the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey and Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Spain delivered their keynote speeches as their countries are the co-sponsors of the UNAOC.
During the meeting Elmar Mammadyarov, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan took the floor and in his speech he referred to the international conference namely "the Role of Youth in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism" that the Turkic Council will co-host on 20-21 October 2016 in Istanbul. In this regard, he expressed that the outcomes of this timely conference will be instrumental in taking up the issue in a way to contribute to the peace and development in the region and beyond.
During the meeting, Secretary General Hasanov had bilateral contacts with numerous heads of international organizations and delegations participating in the event. Project Director Pelin Musabay Baki accompanied Secretary General Hasanov at the Ministerial meeting.
