Secretary General of the Turkic Council, Ambassador Ramil Hasanov, attended the “Intergovernmental Round Table” as a panelist on the occasion of the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) Third Sport Integrity Forum held in Rome on 30 January 2018 with the participation of over 200 people from sporting organizations, governments, and international organizations.
Officials from governments of countries, as well as international and intergovernmental organizations discussed ways to strengthen international cooperation and global leadership to gain back the reputation of sport, which has been tarnished by successive scandals. Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan, Ismayil Ismayilov, was among the panellists and spoke about the principle of autonomy and the tight balance in the relations between government and sport federations in a country.
In his speech, Secretary General Hasanov underlined the emphasis being paid to the field of youth and sports under the Turkic Council. He explained the mechanisms of cooperation of the member countries with solid examples. In response to a question, he further elaborated on the major sporting events hosted by the Turkic Council member states.
Alongside the panel session, Secretary General Hasanov met with the President of ICSS Muhammed Hanzab to discuss future cooperation between the two organizations. He also gave an interview to the press on the pressing needs to secure sport from the threats it faces and the prospective contribution of the Turkic Council on this noble endeavor. In the interview, Secretary General Hasanov also talked about the upcoming youth and sports activities of the Turkic Council.
Secretary General Hasanov was accompanied by the Project Director Ali Çiviler and Deputy Chief of Protocol Araz Salmanov.
