Secretary General of the Turkic Council Baghdad Amreyev is continuing his program in New York on the occasion of the opening of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly. He held a meeting with the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser on 27 September 2018.
High Representative Al-Nasser praised the ongoing relations between the Turkic Council and UNAOC and expressed his hope that cooperation between the two organizations will be increased during the term of Secretary General Amreyev.
High Representative commended the Turkic Council Member States for hosting UNAOC Global Forums and Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in their capitals as well as for pursuing effective cooperation with the UNAOC in New York. He highlighted the role of the diplomats of the Turkic Council countries at the UN for being very active in pushing through the global process of the dialogue of the UNAOC.
Secretary General extended his appreciation to the High Representative for the solid cooperation between the two organizations and his support to the activities of the Turkic Council, based on the MoU signed between the two organizations in 2016. Mentioning the importance of the collaboration between the Turkic Council and UNAOC, he underlined that Turkic Council is ready to actively contribute to the relations of the UNAOC with the Turkic Council Member States on a bilateral basis.
Secretary General Amreyev emphasized the youth empowerment initiatives and expressed his wish for the continuation of successful joint projects such as the “Role of Youth in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism” and “Joint Youth Dialogue Exchange Workshop” co-organized by the Turkic Council and UNAOC in 2016 and 2017 in Istanbul.
Secretary General Amreyev thanked the High Representative for the kind invitation to the UNAOC Group of Friends Ministerial Meeting to be convened on 28 September 2018 in UN General Assembly and for the opportunity to address at such an important meeting in his capacity as the Secretary General of the Turkic Council.
High Representative reiterated his invitation for the 8th Global Forum of the UNAOC to be held in New York on 19-20 November 2018 dedicated to the theme of Commit2Dialogue: Partnerships for Prevention and Sustaining Peace.
Turkic Council Project Directors Ali Çiviler and Assan Mazhitov accompanied Secretary General during the meeting.
