Secretary General of the Turkic Council, H.E. Baghdad Amreyev had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan H.E. Rashid Meredov on 28 June 2021 in Ashgabat.
Secretary General expressed gratitude for the kind invitation extended by the leadership of brotherly Turkmenistan and for the warm hospitality shown for the Turkic Council delegation. He reiterated the contentedness as the Organization for productive bilateral relations of the Turkic Council Member States with Turkmenistan.
B. Amreyev briefed the Foreign Minister on the ongoing preparations for the 8th Summit of the Turkic Council planned to be held in Istanbul in November 2021 and important decisions to be taken at the Summit that will mark the transition to a higher level of cooperation within the organization and strong transformation of the relations in the Turkic world. Taking this opportunity, Secretary General expressed that the expected participation of His Excellency Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow in this landmark Summit would exhibit the unity in the Turkic world.
Foreign Minister Meredov underlined the important issues that were stressed by the President of Turkmenistan during Turkistan Summit held on 31 March 2021 and noted that Turkmenistan stands for the development of partnership within the Turkic Council, particularly on the issues of maintaining stability and security, including the energy and ecological safety in the region and afar.
Foreign Minister also said that Turkmenistan positively regards the opportunities of involving the potential of the Turkic Council for the expansion of collaboration in the area of transport and communications from the perspective of sustainable development.
Secretary General Amreyev shared with Foreign Minister Meredov a detailed overview of the ongoing initiatives of the Turkic Council in the fields of economy, trade, transport, energy, tourism as well as youth and sports such as Turkic Investment Fund, Turkic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sister Ports Initiative, endeavors to render Trans Caspian Middle Corridor a well functioning and viable corridor.
Parties also discussed the prospect of Turkmenistan’s joining the Turkic Council in a special status.
Following the meeting, Secretary General Bagdad Amreyev gave an interview to the TV 4 Channel of Turkmenistan. The visit and the interview were broadly aired on the national TV Channels.
Deputy Secretary General Mr. Gismat Gozalov, Project Directors Ozge Pan and Almatkhan Kali accompanied Secretary General at the meeting.
