Secretary General of the Turkic Council H.E. Baghdad Amreyev met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan H.E. Abdulaziz Kamilov on 8 February 2021 in Tashkent.
During the meeting, Parties noted that Uzbekistan’s accession to the Turkic Council was a historic event that strengthened the unity of the Turkic World and provided a crucial window of opportunities for mutually beneficial partnership. In a short period since Uzbekistan joined the Organization, despite the negative impact of the pandemic, the Turkic Council has managed to achieve significant results.
Minister Kamilov underlined that the Turkic Council bringing together the brotherly countries and strategic partners takes a special place in Uzbekistan's foreign policy.
The Secretary General and the Minister discussed topical issues of multifaceted cooperation in the political, trade, economic, investment, cultural, and humanitarian spheres, in the field of transport and logistics, tourism, youth, and sports.
An exchange of views took place on the agenda of the upcoming important events, including Summits of the Heads of States, the sixth meeting of Ministers in Charge of Tourism, the fifth meeting of the Ministers in Charge of Youth and Sports and Young Entrepreneurs Forum to be held in Uzbekistan in 2021.
A special emphasis was given to the institutional foundations of trade, economic, and investment cooperation, including the efforts of the Secretariat for the establishment of the Joint Investment Fund of the Turkic Council aimed at facilitating the implementation of various investment projects.
Touching upon the future strategy of cooperation among the Turkic Council Member States, B.Amreyev and A.Kamilov underlined the importance of further implementation of practically significant initiatives and concrete projects that contribute to the improvement of the economic welfare of the Turkic peoples and further integration of the entire Turkic World.
The Secretary General shared with the Minister the latest developments in the Turkic Council activities in the transportation sphere aimed at creating favorable conditions for the access of Uzbek goods to foreign markets.
In particular, he mentioned the efforts for bolstering transport linkages among the Member States across the Trans-Caspian International East West Middle Transport Corridor (Trans-Caspian Corridor), the establishment of a “green corridor” and the launch of a “green lane” system at border crossing points to facilitate the delivery of essential products, as well as digitalization of the Freight Transportation System through launching the “eTir” and “ePermit” pilot projects among the Turkic Council Member States.
Mr. Amreyev proposed to extend the status of the ancient city of Khiva as the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World for 2021 and expressed the readiness of the Secretariat to contribute to promoting and popularizing the cultural and historical potential of Khiva, as well as to ensure the participation of representatives of culture, literature, and art of the Turkic Council Member and Observer States in the scheduled events.
On the occasion of the celebrations of the 580th anniversary of the birth of the great Turkish poet and thinker, the monument figure Alisher Navoi, the Secretary General proposed the launch of the Alisher Navoi International Award of the Turkic Council with the title "Contribution to the Unity of the Turkic World".
The Secretary General and the Minister also exchanged views on a wide range of issues that are on the current agenda of the Organization as well as pressing international and regional topics.
