Secretary General’s Message on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan

Secretary General’s Message on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Today we are celebrating the Independence Day of our founding Member State, the Republic of Azerbaijan, currently holding the Chairmanship of the Turkic Council. On this occasion, I am honored to convey my heartfelt congratulations to the brotherly people of Azerbaijan and to its Government.
Constitutional Act on State Independence adopted on 18 October 1991 by the Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan,  announced to the whole world independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan as the successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic which existed on 1918-1920, has a tremendous historical impact to the destiny of brotherly people of Azerbaijan.
We are so proudly witnessing the great progresses made by Azerbaijan in political, economic and social areas during the past 29 years of independence that became a factor of stability and peace in our region, under wise leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.
The Republic of Azerbaijan has been playing vital role in the Turkic Council: the founding document of the Turkic Council has been signed in Nakhcivan; it successfully hosted the last 7th Summit of the Turkic Council, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the establishment of our organization; initiated and successfully organized 1st Extraordinary Summit of the Turkic Council dedicated to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In this crucial period of the history for our brotherly nation of Azerbaijan, we once again express our solidarity with the Azerbaijani people, and reiterate strong support to its legitimate fight in accordance with international law for the full restoration of the internationally recognized territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan and its sovereignty over them.
Expressing my firm belief that the national flag of brotherly Azerbaijan will be raised in its liberated lands, I would like to convey once again my warm congratulations on this glorious day of history and wish the people of Azerbaijan peace, prosperity and further progress.

Happy Independence Day!

Baghdad Amreyev
Turkic Council Secretary General
