Student Council of Turkic University Union met in Istanbul
The conference themed `Role of Youth in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism’ was co-hosted by the Turkic Council and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) on 20-21 October 2016 in Istanbul.
200 young leaders including participants from more than 30 countries from Africa to Central Asia at the level of ministers, senior representatives and experts from UN specialized agencies such as United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and other international organizations like Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS), senior representatives of non-governmental organizations, academics, as well heads of the youth council attended the conference.
During the conference, youngsters including those who work at the government structures and international organizations discussed the ways to prevent violent extremism. Student Council of the Turkic University Union also attended this significant international event.
During the meeting of the Turkic Council Secretary General with the representatives of the Student Council, Ambassador Ramil Hasanov underlined that he will continue to support the Student Council while indicating of his confidence in their activities.
At the end of the conference, the representatives of the Student Council also paid a visit to the Secretariat of the Turkic Council. The Student Council plans to hold it first meeting at the end of the November in Kyrgyzstan at the Kyrgyzstan Turkey Manas University. The Student Council representatives also made a meeting at the Secretariat premises where they exchanged views regarding the prospective joint projects and establishing joint working mechanisms.
After the visit to the Secretariat, the Student Council representatives had the possibility to see the newly opened Vodafone Arena Stadium upon the invitation of the Chairman of Beşiktaş JK Fikret Orman. They also visited the Culture Houses of the Turkic World and met with the Turkic World Research Foundation.
