Hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Erlan Abdyldaev, the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) was held on 2 September 2018 in Bishkek, within the framework of the 6th Summit of the Turkic Council.
Meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. Kairat Abdrakhmanov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey H.E. Mevlut Çavuşoğlu, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Ramiz Hasanov and the Secretary General Ambassador Ramil Hasan. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary H.E. Péter Szijjártó also attended the meeting as the guest.
Ambassador Hasan addressed the meeting and briefed the Ministers of Foreign Affairs about the activities carried out by the Turkic Council including the implemented projects and the work undertaken during his tenure. He also presented the Turkic Council`s four-year activity report to the Ministers.
At the meeting, the Kyrgyz national writer and the Kyrgyz Member of the Council of Elders of the Turkic Council, Beksultan Zhakiev, Secretary General of TURKPA Altynbek Mamaiusupov, Secretary General of TURKSOY Dusen Kaseinov, President of the Turkic Academy Prof. Dr. Darkhan Kıdırali and the President of Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Günay Afandiyeva provided information to the Council of Foreign Ministers about the activities of their institutions.
At the meeting, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs has signed the various complementary documents of the Turkic Academy and Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, as well as the decision on observer status of Hungary to the Turkic Academy. The Ministers finalized the relevant documents and the Summit Declaration to be signed by the Presidents of the Member States at the Heads of State Council to be held on 3 September. During the meeting, the Foreign Ministers also discussed the steps to be taken to increase the existing cooperation between the Turkic Speaking States. The Ministers, wishing to the Kyrgyz side success for the Third World Nomad Games to be started at Issyk-Kul this evening, emphasized the importance of promoting traditional sports and expressed the opinion that Secretariat’s fruitful work in the field of youth should continue. Ministers noted the importance of strengthening existing cooperation in the fields of transport, economy, trade and tourism under the roof of the Turkic Council, and stated that the efforts of the Council to obtain observer status at the United Nations General Assembly are continuing. They emphasized the necessity of deepening regional and inter-regional cooperation and expressed their satisfaction in the development of the relations between Hungary and the Turkic Council, which have common cultural and historical ties with the Turkic States. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Mr. Szijjártó stated that they would like to work closely with a transparent international organization open to cooperation like the Turkic Council and reiterated their intention to obtain observer status in this framework.
On the other hand, the Ministers thanked Secretary General Ambassador Ramil Hasan, whose term of office was completed, for his work and wished success to the new Secretary General Ambassador Baghdad Amreyev to be appointed at the Council of Heads of State Meeting tomorrow.
The promotional film of the Turkic Council Modern Silk Road Joint Tour Package, prepared by TRT Avaz under the coordination of the Secretariat, was demonstrated to the participants at end of the meeting. The Modern Silk Road Joint Tour Package Project, which aims to unite the member states of the Turkic Council for the first time in a joint tour and introduce the rich cultural and historical heritage along the Silk Road to the Turkic people and to the whole world, has started to operate in 2018. In this context, the Ministers expressed their satisfaction with the current status of the project and declared that they will continue to support the project to increase its attractiveness to a wider audience.
