The delegation of the Turkic Council paid a courtesy visit to Ms. Jayathma Wickramanayake, UN Secretary General`s Envoy on Youth, on 18 September 2017 in New York, on the margins of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly.
During the visit, the delegation informed the Envoy on the activities of Turkic Council on youth especially concerning youth camps, youth festivals and the establishment of youth platform within the Council. Furthermore, the outcomes of the international conference that had been co-hosted by the Turkic Council and the UN Alliance of Civilizations on the Role of Youth in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PVE) in October 2016 in Istanbul was shared with the Envoy at the visit. The contributions of the Turkic Council to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals especially on SDGs no 4, 16 and 17 through its activities on youth and sports were also conveyed to the Envoy. The context of the PVE Academy that the Council and UNDP plan to launch was among the issues taken up.
In this regard, the parties discussed the possible avenues for cooperation between the Turkic Council Secretariat and the Envoy Office in the period ahead taking into account that upcoming Summit of the Turkic Council Heads of States to be hosted be Kyrgyzstan will be dedicated to youth and sports.
Underlining the valuable support of regional organizations such as Turkic Council to the attainment of the SDGs, the Envoy expressed their readiness to collaborate with the Turkic Council Secretariat regarding the skill development of the youth in the region.
Project Directors Pelin Musabay Baki, Ali Çiviler, Assan Mazhitov and Jeyhun Shahverdiyev attended the mentioned visit from the Turkic Council side. Vugar Allahverdiyev, Coordination Officer, participated in the meeting from the Envoy Office.
