A Turkic Council delegation headed by the Secretary General Ramil Hasanov paid a visit to New York on the margins of the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 21-27 September 2014.
The informal meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) held every year on the margins of the UNGA was hosted by Turkey on 26 September 2014, in its capacity as the Chairman-in-Office of the Turkic Council.
At the informal CFM meeting, Parties discussed Turkic Council’s observer status applications to the UNGA and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Turkic Council’s participation in the Istanbul Process as a supporting international organization and cooperation of the Member States at the international organizations, along with other issues that are high on the agenda of the Council.
Besides, “Additional Protocol to the Host Country Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Secretariat of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States regarding the Secretariat of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States” was signed by the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, and the Secretary General of the Turkic Council, Ramil Hasanov.
Within the framework of the visit, Turkic Council delegation also met with the Permanent Representatives of Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Turkey to the UN to discuss the Council’s observer status application to the UNGA.
A Memorandum of Understanding, laying the basis for relations between the Turkic Council and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) on such concrete projects areas as economy, transport, customs, tourism etc., was signed on 23 September 2014 by the Secretary Generals of both organizations.
