30 years ago, on February 26, 1992, humanity has witnessed one of the most brutal acts in history committed by Armenian forces against Azerbaijani civilians during the first Karabakh War. As a result of the inhumane assault against the Azerbaijani town of Khojaly, the largest massacre has happened and 613 people including 106 women, 63 children and 70 elderlies lost their lives while 1275 people were taken as hostage.
Today marks not only the anniversary of the annihilation of the town and its people but also the lost faith in human nature and international justice. We are still confident that the perpetrators of the war crime will be responsible in front of the international legal mechanisms and will become the exemplary case for the future of global peace.
Now, under the wise leadership and will of brotherly Azerbaijani people, the Republic of Azerbaijan has put an end to nearly 30 years of occupation and barbaric exploitation of Karabakh and has restored historical justice, its national dignity and territorial integrity.
The Organization of Turkic States remains committed to international peace and stability and in this context supports the establishment of long-term peaceful development in the region as a result of the new geopolitical reality after the Second Karabakh War.
The painful memory of Khojaly victims and survivors still at the hearts of the people of the Turkic World. Hereby, we as the OTS commemorate with respect the victims of Khojaly genocide and continue to stand along with the Government and brotherly people of Azerbaijan on this Memorial Day.
