Upon the invitation from the Central Commission for holding Elections and Referenda in Turkmenistan, the Organization of Turkic States International Election Observation Mission, composed of the representatives of the Secretariat, has monitored the Election of the President of Turkmenistan on 12 March 2022.
During the meetings held with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan H.E. Rashid Meredov and Chairman of the Central Commission for holding Elections and Referenda in Turkmenistan H.E. Gulmurad Muradov on 12-13 March 2022, the Mission was thoroughly informed on every aspect of the election process, ongoing reforms in the country, new amendments brought to the Electoral code on the basis of the recommendations of international community, participation of international observer missions in the elections, and preparations for the voting process for the Turkmenistan citizens living abroad.
On the Election Day, the Mission conducted the observation of the voting procedures in 11 polling stations in total: 8 in Ashgabat and 3 in Akhal velayet. Assessment of the Mission on the elections was shared by Deputy Secretary General of OTS Gismat Gozalov with national, international and public media outlets at a press conference held on 12 March 2022.
The International Election Observation Mission of the Organization of Turkic States affirms that the Election of the President of Turkmenistan was open, transparent and complied with the national legislation of Turkmenistan as well as the internationally recognized election standards and practices.
The Mission wholeheartedly congratulates Turkmenistan and the brotherly Turkmen people for the successful organization of the elections and reiterates its hope that the results of the elections would further contribute to increasing welfare in the country and strengthening the fraternal relations in the Turkic World.
