The Organization of Turkic States in close cooperation and support of the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye, Customs and Tourism Enterprises Co. Inc. (GTİ. A.Ş.), Turkic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey May (TOBB) has conducted a site visit to the border crossing points of Türkiye on 16-18 May 2022.
The Deputy Chairmen and representatives of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan and State Customs Service of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Trade of Türkiye and the OTS Secretariat participated in the program, which aimed to exchange experience and the best practice of Türkiye in modernization and operation of the custom border gates.
In the opening ceremony that took place at the headquarter of the OTS Secretariat in Istanbul, the Secretary General Baghdad Amreyev briefed about the activities of the Organization on strengthening cooperation in the field of customs among the Member States and expressed the importance of customs facilitation to economies/trade, transportation and tourism sectors.
In the welcoming speeches, the heads of delegations underlined the growing role of the OTS in enhancing customs cooperation among the Member States and emphasized the importance of the organized field visit which will contribute to implementing best practices in the customs sphere, advancing efficient customs control and accelerating the passage of goods.
During the program, the delegates had a trip to Edirne, where they got acquainted with the customs border checkpoints in “Muratbey”, “Kapikule” and “Hamzabeyli”, the operation and modernization of which was carried out by GTI A.Ş., and had extensive discussions on the avenues of mutually beneficial cooperation.
