President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Ilham Aliyev, received the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) H.E. Baghdad Amreyev on 24 May 2022.
The Secretary-General reported to the President on the implementation of the historical decisions of the Heads of State taken at the last Istanbul Summit on 12 November 2021, particularly in the field of economy and trade, customs, ICT, and transport.
Secretary General also shared with the President the outcomes of the 7th OTS Ministerial Meeting on Tourism and the selection of Shamakhi city as the “Tourism Capital of the Turkic World.”
B. Amreyev briefed the Head of Azerbaijan State on the current stage of negotiations on establishing the Agreement of the Turkic Investment Fund, as well as planned activities of the OTS in Azerbaijan for 2022, such as the organization of the Meeting of Ministers in charge of ICT in Baku within the framework of the Aerospace and Technology Festival “TEKNOFEST Azerbaijan,” the Turkic Business Forum and 2nd meeting of the Heads of Institutions in charge of Religious Affairs of the OTS in Shusha.
H.E. President Ilham Aliyev pointed out that the OTS entered into a new phase of expanding the cooperation areas, strengthening the multilateral relations, and deepening the integration processes among the Member States.
Stressing the current unstable and challenging situation on the Eurasian continent, H.E. President Aliyev underlined the importance of furthering close and active collaboration among the Turkic States. He particularly emphasized undertakings such as the facilitation of transport and transit procedures and the use of new mechanisms for easing the movement of goods throughout the Trans-Caspian International Route (Middle Corridor).
Highlighting the significance of deepening cultural exchange and development of the tourism sector, President Aliyev appreciated the selection of Shusha as the “Cultural Capital of Turkic World” and the designation of Shamakhi city as the “Tourism Capital of the Turkic World.” He pointed out that this decision would promote the tourism potential of this beautiful region, which is rich in history, culture, and nature.
President Aliyev further highly assessed the recent exchange of visits at the level of Heads of Turkic States and expressed his belief that these visits will contribute to widening the multifaceted cooperation in the framework of the OTS and enhancing the unity of the Turkic World.
H. E. President Aliyev reiterated his strong support to the Secretariat in carrying out the activities and projects to expand and deepen cooperation among the Member States.
Secretary General expressed his gratitude to H.E. President Aliyev for strengthening the Turkic World’s unity and wished brotherly Azerbaijan to achieve further outstanding development and prosperity under his historical leadership.
