Within the context of his official visit to Astana, Secretary General of the Turkic Council Ambassador Baghdad Amreyev had a bilateral meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. Kairat Abdrakhmanov on 17th September 2018.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Kairat Abdrakhmanov congratulated the Secretary General and expressed that his huge experience, knowledge and vision in international relations and diplomacy will make valuable contribution for strengthening the Turkic Council.
He indicated that the decisions made by the Presidents of the Turkic Council Member States during the Summit, particularly those related to the reform of the organization, are of great importance and Kazakhstan is ready to support the Secretariat in the implementation of the necessary measures in this direction. In this regards, he noted that the efforts need to be focused on optimization of the structures of existing Turkic international institutions and strengthening the role of the Turkic Consul and its position in the international arena. Mentioning the experience of other prominent international organizations and sharing some critical ideas on the structural functions of the Turkic Council, the Minister expressed his readiness to start discussions with the other Member States on developing the Concept Paper on the reform and restructuring of the institutions of Turkic cooperation.
Ambassador Amreyev expressed his gratitude to Minister Abdrakhmanov for receiving him in the capacity of the Secretary General of the Turkic Council and conveyed his thanks for the continuous support that he provided to the Turkic Council during his previous and current posts.
B. Amreyev has emphasized that the during the Kazakhstan chairmanship at the Turkic Council Kazakhstan has done a great job of honoring the Turkic Council and implementing important projects between the member states. It shows its strong commitment to the ideas of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. Nursultan Nazarbayev on further strengthening of unity of the Turkic world.
Secretary General Amreyev also informed his counterpart about the fruitful meetings with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey H.E. Binali Yıldırım during his visit to Ankara on 11-12 September 2018.
In addition to this, the Secretary General briefed on the recent activities of the Secretariat and informed the Minister about some significant achievements of the organization in the fields of trade, tourism, transport and education. Specifying Uzbekistan’s active presence during the last Summit in Cholpon-Ata and Hungary`s observer status obtention at the Turkic Council and Turkic Academy, the Secretary General gave information about the plans to render the organization more efficient and productive and strengthen its project-oriented strategy. He also highlighted the proposals raised by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. Nursultan Nazarbayev to use the potential of the Astana International Financial Centre and take an active part in the development of the Turkestan region.
In this regards, Secretary General touched upon the importance of support by Kazakhstan the activities of Secretariat and succesfull implementation of above mentioned initiatives and events that is planned to be held during the second part of this year in Kazakhstan .
Finally, both sides agreed on the need to reinforce the operational capacity of the organization and increase its performance in the international arena while exploring further prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation among the Member States.
Minister Abdrakhmanov expressed his appreciation with the efforts mentioned above and reiterated the support of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the activities of the Turkic Council and the proposals that will improve the effectiveness of the organization.
