Secretary General of the Turkic Council Baghdad Amreyev visited Jeddah on 1-2 September 2019 and met with the Secretary General of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef Bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, Vice-President of Islamic Development Bank, Dr. Zamir Iqbal and CEO of Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD) Mr. Ayman Amin Sejiny.
During the meeting at the Headquarters of OIC, Secretaries General exchanged views on the ongoing cooperation between the two organizations in different spheres and possible means to bring the ties among the Turkic Council and OIC and its institutions to a higher level.
Secretaries General emphasized on the significant role of the Turkic Council Member States in the promotion of unity and prosperity of the Islamic world. They expressed the hope for finalization of the legal framework of the cooperation established between the two organizations to advance towards a more consolidated relationship at the upcoming Foreign Ministers of OIC Conference to take place in Niger in 2020.
Baghdad Amreyev and Yousef al Othaimeen have also exchanged views on some topics related to regional and international politics of mutual concern.
Secretary General Amreyev had a meeting with the Vice President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), Dr. Zamir Iqbal. Secretary General expressed appreciation for the assistance of IsDB extended to the Turkic Council Member States on significant projects of national development. He briefly informed the Vice President on the Turkic Council’s activities by putting a special emphasis on the upcoming projects in the field of economy.
The Parties discussed the specific areas whereby the both organizations can contribute to each other’s endeavors by bringing together their respective resources and knowledge in mutually attractive areas, particularly on the Investment Fund that will be formed under the Turkic Council.
Secretary General met with the CEO of the Islamic Corporation for the Development of Private Sector (ICD), affiliated body of IsDB, Mr. Ayman Amin Sejiny. He informed Mr. Sejiny on Turkic Council efforts to support, Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the Member States, noting that the theme of the upcoming Summit of the Turkic Council will be dedicated to developing SMEs in the Member States. Given the ICD’s broad experience in the field, Baghdad Amreyev expressed the interest of the Turkic Council to collaborate with ICD in the period ahead.
Mr. Sejiny welcomed the Secretary General and briefed him on the activities of ICD. Stressing that SMEs, though very challenging are essential to any economy in terms of economic development, job creation and other socially important issues, he stated that ICD, in which Turkic Council Member States are stakeholders is ready to establish a close cooperation with the Turkic Council through experience and knowledge sharing and providing technical and financial support on the projects of common concern.
On the sidelines of his official visit, Secretary General also met with the Assistant Secretaries General of OIC Musa Kulaklıkaya and Askar Musinov.
