The Global South-South Development EXPO 2017 organized by the UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and hosted by the Government of the Republic of Turkey was concluded on 30 November 2017 in Antalya with a glorious closing ceremony.
The Turkic Council was among the implementing partners of this global event together with TİKA and SESRIC. It also organized in partnership with the UNDP the Solution Forum entitled “Good Practices in South-South Cooperation for Implementation of the SDGs: Development through Transformation” and was one of the main organizers of “the High-level Round Table on City Experiences in South-South Cooperation in Tourism for Sustainable Development”.
More than 800 participants from over 120 UN Member States , including private sector and civil society and academic organizations attended the said EXPO where 35 institutional partners organized sessions, the number of which exceeded to 37. Furthermore 58 booths, including the one belonging to the Turkic Council showcased impressive work undertaken by all partners on the Exhibition Floor. Moreover, 3 photo exhibitions showcasing the the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, the Brazilian Cooperation Agency as well as the Modern Silk Road Joint Tour Package Project of the Turkic Council were presented.
In their closing remarks, Jorge Chediek, Envoy of UN Secretary General on South-South Cooperation and Director of UNOSSC and Gülseren Çelik , Head of Department of General Directorate for Multilateral Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey expressed their gratitude to the Turkic Council for its valuable contribution for the realization of the EXPO with such a remarkable success.
At the end of the closing ceremony, Dr. Ömer Kocaman, Deputy Secretary General of the Turkic Council received the GSSD 2017 Appreciation Award presented by the UNOSSC to the Turkic Council for the latter’s firm support to the materialization of the EXPO.
Project Directors Ali Çiviler and Zhanar Nugumanara accompanied Deputy Secretary General Kocaman during the events.
Project Director Pelin Musabay Baki was the master of ceremony of the closing ceremony.
