On the occasion of the “Turkic Speaking Countries’ Cooperation Day”, the Turkic Council celebrated the 9th anniversary of the signing of the Nakhchivan Agreement with a reception hosted by the Secretary General Baghdad Amreyev in Ankara with the valuable participation of the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, the Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, Dr. Mustafa Tuna, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Yavuz Selim Kiran, Governor of Kastamonu, Yasar Karadeniz, and Senior Faculty Member of Galatasaray University, Prof. Dr. Ilber Ortayli, as well as members of corps diplomatic, senior Turkish officials and academicians.
In his welcoming speech, Secretary General Amreyev acknowledged with gratitude the continuous support given by the Heads of State of the Member States to the Turkic Council for enhancing cooperation in the Turkic world. Secretary General also underlined the important achievements of the Council since its inception in the areas of foreign policy, economy, transport, tourism, education and youth&sports. Secretary General also touched upon the relations of the Turkic Council established with 19 international organizations and bodies including UNDP, UNAOC, UNOSSC and the joint projects resulted by this close collaboration.
Emphasizing the great capacity of the Turkic Speaking States with a population of 150 million and a geography of over 4,5 million square kilometers and a total GDP of over 2 trillion USD to contribute to regional and global stability, he said that the untapped collective potential is too valuable to overlook. Secretary General also expressed his confidence and dedication for fulfilling the tasks entrusted upon the Secretariat at the 6th Summit of the Turkic Council held in Cholpon-Ata.
Following the opening speech of the Secretary General, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Yavuz Selim Kiran, in his speech, underscored that the Turkic Council has greatly contributed to the consolidation of mutual trust and political solidarity between the Turkic States over the last nine years. Deputy Foreign Minister also emphasized the importance of solidarity within the Turkic world and extended his wishes for this solidarity to be shared with more brotherly countries and for the development of the Turkic Council in the coming period. Noting the achievements obtained in the economic sphere, Deputy Foreign Minister expressed that they aim to further contribute to the welfare of the peoples in the future through projects that contribute to the development of the region.
Senior Faculty Member of Galatasaray University Prof. Dr. Ilber Ortayli also delivered a speech where he stressed the importance of cooperation in the Turkic world especially in the field of education and tourism for future generations to have a more comprehensive understanding of their common history and better appreciate the richness of their heritage.
