Turkic Council delegation headed by Deputy Secretary General Dr. Mirvokhid Azimov participated in the 158th session of the Working Party on Customs Questions affecting Transport of UNECE being held on 12-15 October 2021 in Geneva.
Addressing the session, Deputy Secretary General Azimov informed the participants on the recent developments on promoting contactless transport and transit procedures within the Turkic Council. Highlighting the eagerness of the Turkic Council Member States to connect their national systems to the eTIR international system, Deputy Secretary General, called the TIR Secretariat and UNECE member countries to consolidate their efforts and speed up the implementation of eTIR.
The delegation met with Director For Sustainable Transport of UNECE Li Yuwei and TIR Secretary of UNECE Konstantinos Alexopoulos, where they held comprehensive discussions on the ways to enhance cooperation between the Turkic Council and UNECE and exchanged views on the issues related to the eTIR and eCMR international systems. Parties also agreed to take joint steps to advance their implementation in the region, including organizing joint workshops.
The Turkic Council delegation also had a meeting with TİR&Transit Director of International Road Transport Union (IRU) Tatiana Rey-Bellet and Senior Adviser of IRU Vakhtang Zarandia, where the parties discussed the current developments, plans and foresight on the application of digital instruments in the transport sector.
