In the framework of the Third General Assembly of the Turkic Council Turkic Unıversity Union, the delegation of the Turkic Council headed by Deputy Secretary General Dr. Ömer Kocaman attended the program dedicated to the prominent Turkic scientist and Nobel Prize winner Prof. Aziz Sancar in the Kyrgyzstan-Turkey Manas University (KTMU) on 20 April 2018 in Bishkek.
After the opening remarks of Prof. Asylbek Kulmyrzaev, Vice Rector of the KTMU, and Prof. Sebahattin Balcı, Rector of the KTMU, and Cengiz Kamil Firat, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Bishkek, Prof. Aziz Sancar was awarded the title of the Honorary Professor of the KTMU by the decision of the University Senate.
Afterwards, Prof. Sancar delivered a speech on science and national development. In his speech, he briefed on his scientific achievements on DNA repair and emphasized that the perseverance and hard work are crucial for the success of young generations of the Turkic World. He also noted that his Nobel Prize would inspire Turkic youth in contributing to the common scientific heritage and lead to the revival of the Turkic scientific renaissance.
He also mentioned that he is ready to provide necessary assistance to the successful students from the Turkic Speaking States in pursuing their academic studies and career.
Furthermore, in his conversation with Deputy Secretary General Kocaman, Prof. Aziz Sancar welcomed the idea of involving his scientific team to the cooperation platform for the young scientists from Turkic World living abroad, which will be established by the Turkic Council in the upcoming period.
On the occasion of his visit, the library named after Prof. Aziz Sancar was officially opened in the KTMU.
The program ended with the tree-planting ceremony.
