Turkic Council International Observer Mission continues to monitor Presidential Elections in Azerbaijan.
Upon the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Turkic Council International Observer Mission headed by Deputy Secretary General Dr. Ömer Kocaman continues to monitor Presidential Elections on 11 April 2018 in Baku and Sheki.

The delegation in Baku is carrying out its mission together with Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Speaking Countries (TurkPA). The Turkic Council delegation in Baku was divided into two groups in order to observe the election in different districts. The delegation in Sheki attended the opening of the polling station at 8:00 AM. The TurkPA delegation will visit the cities of Sumqayit and Xirdalan.

Until now, the groups observed high level of participation by the youth and elders as well as noticed considerable media interest, confidence in the electorate, absence of serious technical disorder, peaceful atmosphere at polling stations, presence of local and international observers. It was also noticed that the elections officials extended assistance to the needy people.

At one of the polling stations, Deputy Secretary General Kocaman gave an interview to the national newspaper regarding the activities of the observer missions.

The joint Turkic Council/TurkPA International Observer Mission consists of 24 officials from the Secretariats of both international organizations as well as representatives from each Member State other than Azerbaijan – Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Turkey.

After the completion of the electoral process, the delegation will observe the counting of votes at randomly selected polling stations.
