Turkic Council Secretary General participated in the XVIII Summit of Heads of States and Governments of the Non-Aligned Movement
Turkic Council Secretary General Baghdad Amreyev participated in the XVIII Summit of Heads of States and Governments of the Non-Aligned Movement  held on 25-26 October 2019 in Baku, Azerbaijan as the guest of the host country.
Held under the motto “Upholding Bandung principles to ensure a concerted and adequate response to the challenges of the contemporary world”, the Summit brings together heads of state and government of nearly 60 countries, as well as heads of international organizations. Additionally, representatives of about 160 countries and international organizations are attending the event.
Current chair of the Non-Aligned Movement, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro opened the Summit and made a speech at the event.  Then he handed over the chairmanship in the Non-Aligned Movement then to Azerbaijan.
H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, elected as the Chair of the XVII Summit the Non-Aligned Movement and the Summit was continued under the chairmanship of President Ilham Aliyev.  At the opening session, President of the United Nations General Assembly Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo, Chair of the Group of 77 Riyad Mansour, and Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov delivered speeches.
Azerbaijan became full-fledged member of the Movement in May 2011 and will hold Chairmanship of the Movement in 2019-2022.
During the Summit, the Secretary General had meetings with heads and representatives of number of delegations attending the event.
