On the eve of the upcoming Samarkand Summit of OTS, the 11th Meeting of Ministers in charge of Economy and Trade of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) was held on 9 November 2022, in Samarkand.
The Ministerial meeting was chaired and moderated by Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan H.E. Jamshid Khodjayev, and attended by the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, H.E. Baghdad Amreyev, the Minister of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic H.E. Daniiar Amangeldiyev, the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye H.E. Mehmet Muş, the Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Samad Bashirli, the Vice Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Abzal Abdikarimov and the State Secretary for Security Policy and Energy Security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Mr. Péter Sztáray.
Addressing the meeting, Secretary General Amreyev informed about activities and main targets of the Organization over the last couple of years, towards strengthening economic ties among its Members, particularly boosting trade and investments by establishing a favorable environment to facilitate trade and investment relations in the region through new mechanisms, programs, and projects in the field of economy in line with the short and mid-term goals of the Organization stipulated in the Turkic World Vision-2040.
Secretary General emphasized the role of the decisions and projects are implementing within Organization, that will devoted to ensuring trade facilitation increasing trade turnover in the OTS region by establishing a digital platform, ensuring simplification, and digitalization of transport and customs procedures along the Middle Corridor, increasing the number of financial instruments available to private sector diversification and development of, particularly SMEs and improving investment climate in Member States.
The Economy and Trade Ministers and Deputy Ministers, in the framework of the agenda of the meeting, exchanged their views and expressed positions on establishment of the Turkic Investment Fund, Turkic Trade Houses and “TURAN|” Special Economic Zone, establishment of the “Research Center for Trade Cooperation of Turkic States” and the “Engineering and Technologies Centers” on the basis of specialized organizations of OTS Member States.
The Parties also discussed and made proposals on the multilateral “Free Trade Agreement on Services and Investments”, “Partnership Agreement on Digital Economy” within the OTS; the enhancing cooperation among investment promotion agencies of the OTS Member States and preparation of joint OTS catalogue of potential investment projects and concrete measures for the development of cooperation in the field of trade and economy set out in the OTS Strategy for 2022-2026.
Following the meeting, Heads of delegations signed the Communiqué of the 11th Meeting of Ministers in charge of Economy and Trade of the Organization of Turkic States and endorsed the “Trade Facilitation Strategy Paper” which will develop new measures and initiatives to increase the volume of trade, as well as eliminate trade barriers and restrictions in the Member and Observer States.
The meeting was followed by Press Conference given by H.E. Jamshid Khodjayev and H.E. Mr. Baghdad Amreyev.
