20. Cooperation with International Organizations

Objectives

The OTS Secretariat has been strengthening its collaboration with numerous international organizations to enhance its global influence and visibility, as outlined in the Turkic World Vision 2040 and the OTS Strategy 2022-2026. Key initiatives include high-level meetings and signed agreements across various sectors like sustainable development, trade, health, education and etc.

Mechanisms

Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and Joint Action Plans

The OTS has formalized partnerships through MoUs with organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO), UN-Habitat, and TIKA, facilitating initiatives in health, urban development, and sustainable energy. A significant collaboration with the WHO led to a training program on health emergencies for professionals from OTS member states.

Sectoral Collaborations

Efforts to collaborate with the International Road Transport Union (IRU) have led to digital TIR pilot projects among OTS members, enhancing transport efficiency. The OTS is also engaging with the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) on sustainable energy projects and exploring partnerships with organizations like the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

Projects

United Nations and European Union

The OTS has prioritized engagement with the UN, aiming for observer status and fostering collaboration on issues such as sustainable development. Notable achievements include hosting the inaugural “Turkic Week” at the UN Office in Geneva. The OTS also seeks stronger ties with the EU, especially in transport and energy, exploring opportunities for cooperation with officials in Brussels.

Future Goals

The OTS continues to work on pending observer status with organizations like the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and seeks to formalize relationships with entities like ASEAN and the African Union. Additionally, ongoing dialogues with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) are aimed at establishing collaborative frameworks.

Through these efforts, the OTS is positioning itself as a regional actor and expanding its influence on global issues, with a focus on sustainable development, economic integration, and regional stability.
