First Meeting among the Space Agencies and Relevant Authorities of the Organization of Turkic States was convened on 20 December 2021 in Baku.
The Meeting was hosted by Mr. Samaddin Asadov, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Space Agency (Azercosmos) and attended by Mr. Serdar Hüseyin Yıldırım, President of the Turkish Space Agency, Mr. Kalykov Talant, Deputy Minister of the Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Kadirov Shukhrat, Acting General Director of the Space Research and Technology Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ms. Raziya Buralkhiyeva, Deputy Chairman of the Aerospace Committee of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Dr. Akos Horvath, Director General of the Centre for Energy Research of Hungary, Mr. Ashir Garayev, Head of the Space Department of the Ministry of Industry and Communications of Turkmenistan (online) and Mr. Mirvokhid Azimov, Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States.
In his speech, Deputy Secretary Azimov noted that in line with the decisions of the 8th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States held on 12 November 2021 in Istanbul, cooperation in the field of space was launched and he expressed the readiness of the Secretariat to coordinate and carry forward all the efforts to this end.
At the meeting, Parties made presentations regarding their activities and prospective projects in the field of space as well as cooperation opportunities under the roof of the Organization of Turkic States.
During the meeting, Parties underlined the importance of increasing cooperation in the field of space and agreed to establish working groups in “spacecraft and infrastructure development projects and programs” and “education and space awareness programs”.
Parties further agreed to work on joint-usage of satellite data from the resources of Member States’; sharing the expertise in various applications, such as water management, natural disasters monitoring, ecology, agriculture and others; designing, manufacturing and launching a joint satellite by the Member States; studying the matter of space standards development in order to coordinate future cooperation; as well as promoting capacity building and experience sharing programs in Aero-Space Research and Development Activities.
At the end of the meeting, Parties signed the agreed points and joint project proposals to be realized in the upcoming period. The afore-mentioned release signed by the Parties is attached herewith.
On the margins of the meeting, delegations visited the Ground Satellite Control Station of AZERCOSMOS.
