A ceremonial funeral service was held for Ambassador János Hóvári, the Executive Director of the Representation Office of the Organization of Turkic States, (OTS) on October 9, 2023 at the Farkasrét State Cemetery in Budapest.
During the service, speeches were delivered by H.E. Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, Pál Fodor, Professor of the Oriental and Turcology Studies, Balázs Bokor, Ambassador (retired), Béla Jungbert, on behalf of the Holy Sepulchre Church, and György Verebes, Member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts.
During his address, the Secretary General of the OTS highlighted the countless and invaluable contributions made by János Hóvári to the Turkic world during his lifetime, both as a Turcologist and a member of the Hungarian foreign service. It was mentioned that the legacy of János Hóvári will be eternal. His wisdom and diplomatic acumen, played a pivotal role in strengthening friendship and cooperation between the Turkic States and Hungary.
Moreover, Kubanychbek Omuraliev noted that János Hóvári’s life-long sacrifices came into fruition with the establishment of the Representation Office of the OTS in 2019 which has had profound impact on the development of closer institutional relations between the EU and OTS in such a short span of time.
The OTS Secretary General emphasized that through an array of noteworthy events Ambassador Hóvári’s endeavours paved the way to the revival and promotion of the Turkic-Hungarian heritage in Europe, as well as the establishment of key institutions under the aegis of the OTS such as the Drought Prevention Institute.
The service was attended by the members of the Hóvári family, the diplomatic corps, academia and high-level representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, as well as the staff of the Representation Office of the OTS.
