Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), within his trip to Astana, took part in the 1st Central Asian Media Forum, coorganized by the OTS, and addressed its “International Organizations as a Bridge for Cooperation” panel session on 21 December 2022.
Turkiye’s 11th President H.E. Abdullah Gül, Mongolia’s 3rd President H.E. Nambaryn Enkhbayar, Secretary of State of Kyrgyzstan H.E. Suyunbek Kasmambetov, ministers, heads of regional organizations, academicians, analysts and experts, representatives of think tanks and business societies, IT industry, opinion makers, senior staff of mass media outlets of the Central Asian participated in the CAMF.
The “International Organizations as a Bridge for Cooperation” session was also attended by Ambassador Halil Akinci, the former Secretary General of the OTS, Ambassador Kairat Sarybai, the Secretary General of the CICA, Mr Sultan Raev, the Secretary General of TURKSOY, Ms Gunay Efendiyeva, the President of the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and moderated by Mr Shahin Mustafayev, the President of the International Turkic Academy.
Having thanked te Ministry of Information and Social Development of Kazakhstan for organizing the significant regional Forum, within his statement Ambassador Omuraliev noted that the Turkic States, representing $ 4 trln. worth GDP and occupying 4.5 mln. m2 of land, also possess rich human and natural resources. The 170-million-populated Turkic region is at the heart of a global crossroads. A united Turkic front is emerging as a new geopolitical reality, promising to produce tangible political and economic results while contributing to peace, security, and stability on the Eurasian continent and beyond.
Having reminded that this reality was discussed at the 9th OTS Summit where a number of significant decisions were adopted, the Secretary General stated that the OTS intends to achieve a higher level of integration, especially in trade, while tapping into the region's full economic potential.
Having said that the Turkic world is a reliable partner also in achieving regional and international peace and stability, Secretary General Omuraliev provided examples of the growing Turkic unity in the international arena, in particluar, the clear support for Azerbaijan’s restoration of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, distinct endorsement of the efforts of Kyrgyzstan to find a peaceful solution to the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, contribution to the “Astana Process” for the lasting political settlement in Syria as well as agreement on coordination action regarding the security and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
Considering the digital century, he stressed the Secretariat recognizes the importance of classic and modern media. In this vein, the Turkic countries are working on projects such as preparing joint TV news and programs, exchanging programs for the media professionals, deepening the cooperation among the public and private broadcasters, establishing the Turkic News Agencies Union, forming the “Association of Journalists of the Organization of Turkic States", as well as organizing the International Media Forum on an annual basis as these steps are vital for informing the wider public about the visibility of the OTS and the joint activities.
