The Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), H.E. Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, attended the 13th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA). Mentioned session was chaired by the Chairperson of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Sahiba Gafarova, and attended by Speakers of Parliaments from TURKPA Member and Observer States. Additionally, heads of Turkic cooperation organizations, as well as representatives from other international and interparliamentary organizations, participated in the session held on 6 June 2024, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
In his speech, Ambassador Omuraliev emphasized the crucial role of parliaments in advancing the green agenda for the Turkic world. He highlighted the importance of environmental sustainability and regional cooperation. The Secretary General underscored the growth and efforts of the OTS across various sectors, with a particular focus on ecology, climate, and environmental issues.
Ambassador Omuraliev called for legislative support to promote renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and environmental protection. He urged parliaments to enact policies that would facilitate the transition to a green economy and ensure the well-being of future generations.
