The 5th Caspian Business Forum on the theme of “Building a sustainable future in the Caspian through connectivity and climate action” was organized by the Caspian Policy Center on 24 September 2024 in New York with the participation of high-level government officials, representatives of NGO’s, expert communities, business and academic circles.
The Secretary General of the Organization of the Turkic States (OTS), H.E. Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources of the U.S. Department of State, H.E. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt, H.E. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt, and Acting Special Coordinator, Office of the U.S. Special Coordinator for the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGI) Helaina Matza delivered keynote speeches at the Caspian Business Forum.
In his speech, Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev briefed the participants on the Organization’s current activities and ongoing economic projects by sharing insights with the audience regarding the trade and economic potential of the Turkic countries, initiatives for economic growth and cross-border cooperation.
The Secretary General briefed participants about the transport potential of the Trans-Caspian International East-West Middle Corridor (Middle Corridor), as well as informed about the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project. He also touched upon the Agreement on the Establishment of a Simplified Customs Corridor and the Agreement on International Combined Freight Transport.
Furthermore, Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev noted the growing cooperation in the environment sector and the implementation of concrete projects aimed at creating an effective platform for multilateral cooperation. He also emphasized the efforts by Turkic countries with regard to green transition and development of renewable energy sources and briefed about the plans of the OTS in the framework of the COP29.
