The Secretary General of the Turkic Council Baghdad Amreyev paid an official visit to the Headquarters of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah on 10 October 2018. In the framework of his visit, he met with the Secretary General, H.E. Dr. Yousef Bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen.
OIC Secretary General Al-Othaimeen welcomed the Secretary General and congratulated him for his appointment to the new post.
Secretary General B. Amreyev emphasized the significant role of the Turkic Council Member States in the promotion of unity and prosperity of the Islamic world and beyond.
The Secretaries General exchanged views on the possible means to deepen cooperation between the two organizations by utilizing the signed Memorandum of Understanding as well as by making joint efforts in the realization of programs and events that would contribute to better present our communities to the rest of the world.
OIC Secretary General Al-Othaimeen expressed their readiness to cooperate with the Turkic Council more actively in the areas of common concern.
Secretary General Amreyev expressed his hope for the cooperation established between the two organizations to advance towards a more consolidated relationship at the upcoming OIC CFM Session as well as at the 14th Islamic Summit scheduled to be held respectively in United Arab Emirates and Gambia in 2019.
In this connection, he underlined the importance of the election of two prominent diplomats from the Member States, Amb. Askar Musinov (Kazakhstan) and Amb. Musa Kulaklıkaya (Turkey) to the positions of Assistant Secretaries General and expressed confidence that their assumption of duties will provide fresh impetus to the future activities of OIC.
Furthermore, Secretary General Amreyev had a meeting with the Acting President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), Mr. Sayed Aqa. Secretary General stressed that his visit, as being the first official visit of a Turkic Council Secretary General to IsDB, is a testament of the importance that the Turkic Council attaches to establishing collaboration between the two organizations. He briefly informed the Acting President on the Turkic Council’s activities by putting special emphasis on the upcoming projects in the field of economy. In this regard, the Parties discussed the specific areas whereby the both organization can contribute to each other’s endeavors by bringing together their respective resources and knowledge in mutually attractive areas. The Parties expressed their willingness to formalize their relations by concluding a framework agreement for deeper cooperation.
On the sidelines of his official visit, Secretary General also met with the Permanent Representatives of the Member States to the OIC. Secretary General briefed the representatives of the Member States on the outcomes of his meetings with the OIC and IsDB high officials. The Parties discussed steps to be taken for strengthening cooperation between the Turkic Council and the OIC.
