Project Director of the Turkic Council Jeyhun Shahverdiyev participated as a panellist at the 4th session of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) High-level Forum of Directors General for Development Cooperation Towards BAPA+40: The Role of Practitioners in Scaling Up the Impact of South-South and Triangular Cooperation for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The topic of 4th Session was “South-South Cooperation: Regional Perspectives” that took place on 30 November 2018 in New York.

In his speech, Project Director Jeyhun Shahverdiyev underlined that the Turkic Council has built a platform for South-South Cooperation that facilitates the fostering of knowledge and experience sharing among its members. The Turkic Council is taking an active role in raising awareness on South-South and Triangular Cooperation in the region as well as globally. It serves as a matchmaker and supporter in the development of its Member States. It also works to consolidate partnerships with international organizations, academia, and the private sector incorporating the sustainable development priorities defined in the national agendas of its Member States.
In this context, he shared about Turkic Council’s projects in the fields of tourism, youth and sports, as well as the young diplomats training program. He also touched upon the international conference on the role of youth in preventing and countering violent extremism co-organized with the UNAOC and the Online Academy on PVE as a new project to be implemented with the UNDP, as other significant initiatives undertaken by the Turkic Council.
At the end of the Session, the panelists were awarded the plague of the UNOSSC in recognition of their contribution to South-South and Triangular Cooperation Global South-South Development Expo 2018.
